* * * ART

Mira Mariah, creator of Girl Knew York, is a multimedia artist based in Tribeca, New York. Her artwork conjures a feminist, queer, and biblical world through an amorphous artistic practice. Mariah’s work spans tattoo, illustration, paint, sculpture, social media, curation, literature, and pedagogy. Exploring the intersections of the body, beauty, spirituality, object-as-idol, care, motherhood, and femme expression, her lived experience as a disabled, queer, Latinx woman and mother of Knew York City prompts a reimagination and expansion of the archetypal definitions of these core themes.

COMMISSIONS

Mira Mariah has created commissions, large and small, for brands, public spaces, and individual collectors. Mariah is drawn to collaboration that expands the spiritual and aesthetic world she has cultivated, personalizing the work to further connect with its viewership.

Mariah’s collaborative process begins with a conversation to draw connections between vision and material. Mariah then collects reference material, synthesizing concept and composition and allowing the work to emerge through an exploratory meditation of its inspiratory origins.
